Achievements

Over the past 20 years we have been preserving as much open space and parkland in White Plains as possible. Our accomplishments include

Preventing destruction of the historic and beautiful Frederick Law Olmsted-designed grounds of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Aiding in the extension of the Greenway.

Causing Bloomingdale’s to fulfill their commitment to clean and maintain the parklet in front of their store.

Helping the residents of Hillair Circle and Rocky Dell to persuade the Common Council to purchase the D’ Elia and Mindich properties for clean-up and development as a park.

Bringing our county representatives and the mayor of White Plains together for the creation of Liberty Park.

Holding forums on open space and meetings to assess the commitment of political candidates to the issues and value of open space.

Bringing the appropriate people and organizations together to create plans for the Veterans’ Memorial Park in Battle Hill.

Awarding annual scholarships to White Plains high school students active in environmental projects.

River Rescue

Sunday, November 6, 10AM - 2PM

The county is asking for volunteers for a "River Rescue". This will be a volunteer initiative designed to combat the lingering aftermath of Hurricane Irene and help reduce future flooding by removing debris in and along the Bronx River. The event will take place Sunday, 6 November between 10AM and 2PM at two places in White Plains - near the County Center and near Main Street. This might be a good project for local associations, groups, and clubs.
