Dear Frances,

Save the Date
The White Plains Council of Neighborhood Associations (WPCNA) in coopoeration with the White Plains Concerned Citizens for Open Space (WPCCOS) will sponsor a Mayoral Debate on Wednesday, March 23 in the Ridgeway School auditorium at 7:30 pm.  PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Thomas Roach, Bob Hyland, Glen Hockley, Mayoral Candidates

About the Election
The candidates are Thomas Roach (Democratic, Working Families and Independence parties), Bob Hyland (Republican and Conservative) and Glen Hockley (his own People Over Politics Party). The winner will fill out the remaining 2.5 years of resigned Mayor Bradley's term. The election will be held on Thursday, March 31.  Please make sure to vote.  Turnout in special elections is low, so take this opportunity to make a difference!

About the Debate
The debate will use a "TV style" format with timed answers and rebuttals.  The questions will be based on topics and suggestions submitted by YOU (see below).  White Plains Times Publisher Pat Casey will be the Moderator, and White Plains Public Access TV will video-tape the debate and rebroadcast it on Channels 45 and 76 from Saturday, March 26 until the Election.

Email Your Topics & Suggestions
Please send your topic suggestions and brief questions to debate@wpcna.org by 5:00 pm, Thursday March 17.  The debate will include as many of your questions and cover as many of your topics as possible. The candidates will also answer a limited number of questions from the audience after the debate.

Please check the WPCNA website, the WPCCOS website, and watch your email for additional information.

Another Event of Interest

Federal Role in Public Education

In scheduling this event, we weren't able to avoid a conflict with another worthwhile event.  On the same evening, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 the White Plains League of Women Voters will sponsor a talk at the home of Ruth Stern, 14 Oxford Road at 7:00 pm.  Beth Kava, Professor at the Pace University School of Education, will discuss the "Federal Role in Public Education."  To learn more about the lecture, read the League's current bulletin.  To learn more about the League, visit their website.

Remember: the Mayoral Debate will be video-taped and rebroadcast on Channels 45 and 76, so you can "do" both events.
